I Am Sorry For Osun People - Omisore

Senator Iyiola Omisore
Senator Iyiola Omisore
(Shortly before slain Minister of Justice & Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige, was killed in his Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State home by yet-to-be-identified assassins, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, granted this interview to the defunct TEMPO magazine.) The interview is republished here for your reading plasure

About a week ago, there was a violent clash at the State House of Assembly, there are indications that the crisis ensued as a result of a move to impeach you. What is your comment on this and what is your level of involvement?
I know that you are aware that I was away abroad on that day; on those days Monday and Tuesday, when the crisis was on, I was in the World Bank discussing ways to get Osun State out of its impoverished state. I had a meeting with the World Bank president, and other operatives, in those days.
It was in the cause of the meeting that I learnt that there was fighting in Osun State, I was not aware. The fight started among the members of the House of Assembly and it was Akande that caused it.

How?
I heard that there was a motion to embarrass the deputy governor and I was told that Governor Akande gave them the instruction before he left for Mecca and that was what led to the crisis. When this motion was moved, members reacted negatively and fighting broke out in the House. They used microphone to beat themselves up. So, what is my involvement in that?

But some arrests were made and there is a report that majority of those arrested were linked to you?
What I was told is that people were arrested on the road; the Commissioner of Police had compromised. I read in the papers that it was two factions that were righting and some thugs of the governor were arrested with cutlasses, charms and guns, were left unattended to. But the police arrested people who were just coming from the quarters to prefer charges against the thugs. The commissioner of Police has compromised and he is the one causing the crisis in this state and I am calling on the Inspector-General of police to give us a neutral CP because I cannot trust the current one again. I am the deputy governor of this state and I cannot trust the CP. He has turned to be Akande’s staff. I have not seen the CP in the last one year, I have not set my eyes on him and he is supposed to be coming here to see what is happening. He is supposed to be checking my guards here randomly.

Are you saying he has taken sides?
Yes he has compromised

With this development, can there ever be any meaningful reconciliation between you and the governor?
With somebody who wanted to take my life, somebody who does not wish me well, somebody who does not let me have my entitlement? I am spending close to seven million naira every month to maintain my people here, water has not be supplied to this house in the last one year. The state government is owing me, on entitlement, on allowances on fuel and other things, close to N20million and this is a bastard whom I fed and paid salaries. He was feeding fat on me. The car he drove to the secretariat was given to him by me. The driver that I gave him was shot by his aides “when they attempted killing Olofoyeku. The man has no conscience. But there will not be peace in the state until the wrongs are righted, until the murderers are brought to book. Rinde has come out to say that they were given money to impeach and that one of them suggested that they should murder. Who and who are to be victims, where does it start from, the police must come out quickly.

But, 2003 is still far away and we are already experiencing this…
I am not interested in 2003, I am concerned about what is happening now, the government on the ground. Akande is not a sole administrator in this state and must not turn the state into his personal company. He is a thief, he has stolen so much money and he will continue to steal money. This is a man who did not leave Nigeria for eighteen years prior to his coming to power, he has, however, gone abroad, when he became the governor, more than ten times now on flimsy excuses. He said some students wanted to give him an award in Ghana and he gave some people money to go and represent him. Spending the people’s money, he is a bastard. He will go back to prison anyway, he will go on account of murder, looting and fraudulent practices. He and his Commissioner for Finance.

Will you not blame this escalating crisis on the leader of your party and Afenifere?
No, I cannot blame them. In the last few months, Akande had been abusing the leaders of Afenifere. So, where do we start from? He has abused and insulted the leaders. He is a nonentity. There were facts that he was at one time mad, he is “Alawoku” and there is no way he can be totally cured of the madness in him. He has a psychiatrist who moves about with him. The laughter he puts on is a therapy. If he does not laugh, he is going to bite people, and I am not surprised and it is unfortunate that when we were contesting people came out with this detail but we were not sure then he is a mad man. He has insulted the leader using the state’s money to advertise. Who will he listen to now? Recently too, Bola Ige came on radio here to insult me and my family. That is his last one. He was beaten yesterday, the people of Ife beat him up and he was crying like a baby as they removed his cap and his glasses. The crowd at Ife had it been it is a political gathering he will be dead by now. It took the intervention of S.S.S. men and some of us, we had to bet the mob, to free him. He was disgraced out of Ife, he had to be dressed like a woman to get out of the town. We had to co-operate with the S.S.S people to beg the people to leave him alone. That is to show that Bola Ige does not command any respect again in this state.

Chief Bola Ige was beaten at Ife?! Is the attack not traceable to you, and why do you think such an ugly thing happened?
He has offended Ife people. If he insults me, he has insulted my people and they have the right to react.

So they were fighting on your behalf?
They were fighting for their own son, and they have the right. Ife has been marginalised in this government and they have the right to react. The people are not happy; they provided about 50 per cent of the votes that got Akande into power. When he came to Ife, he told them that the more they vote the more would their gains be. They were then asking him at Ife if what he has done is what they deserved to be given, it was just a spontaneous reaction. I had to beg them because what the people wanted to do was more than that. If he is wise, he must not come to Ife again.

You said their won’t be peace in the state until the wrongs are corrected…?
(Cut in) Yes, until the murderers are brought to book. You know there was no peace in Egypt until the Israelites were freed, it is not a matter of brick-stone or threat, it is a matter of natural recourse. There was an attempt to murder, blood was involved, naturally, the blood will not let peace reign in the state. I had been keeping quiet, just watching them. Now, they went to the House of Assembly to start embarrassing me. The House started the whole crisis. I wasn’t around. If I wanted to plan my own, this state will just go into ruins, I don’t want to do anything that will destroy my reputation in this state. Everybody knows me in this state and I have a good reputation among the people.

Will you say you are sorry for the people of this state?
I am very sorry for them. They have a governor who is not responsive. When we got to Osogbo, there was water everywhere. There has not been water in this town in the last one year. The pumps packed up at Ede, instead of them replacing pumps they are busy importing chemicals because of the bribe they take from the importers. Instead of using money to buy things that will make water available which I advised them to do, they bought chemical at inflated prices. So where is the water, they want to eat chemicals do you count five before one, there is not water in this house, there are water tankers in this state, they use them to fill their houses leaving this house alone, I spend about N7 million every month to maintain this house.

Do you expect these monies paid back?
I am sure when another government comes, because the expenses are all documented. I don’t have official car. I have bought cars by myself

The murder (poison) plot that is under investigation by the police, has there been any significant development on the issue?
I am surprised, I wonder, my former aide who was escorted by Akande’s aides revealed and confirmed that money transpired, there was attempt to murder and an attempt to impeach. They have confessed. What again? I want Nigeria police force to come out to explain what is happening.

How will you describe the role of the state’s House of Assembly in the entire crisis?
It is so unfortunate. There are cases in courts and I don’t want to say anything about them. One thing is clear though, they are fighting among themselves. Where there are bad eggs, the good ones will want to neutralise them. I think they are doing justice for themselves; it is too early to comment on them.

How true is the talk that you’ve switched romance over to the PDP?
The people saying this are blackmailers. I am not a small fry in AD so, why would I suddenly leave. I belong to the core Afenifere, Akande does not. My leaders know that I am not PDP, I am AD. Akande and his people do not stop blackmail. Akande is a big liar, somebody who was commissioning projects that previous administration has commissioned. Commissioning hospital that we used when campaigning, he is a liar and he will go to jail. Last time he went to jail because he used government money to enrich the party. Now, he is using government money to enrich himself and Bola Ige. They are on their way to prison and they will surely go.

Don’t you see the attack on Chief Ige as an embarrassment to the Yoruba race being a leading light in Afenifere.
Bola Ige is a traitor in Afenifere, he has abused and embarrassed leaders of Afenifere, and so, it is nemesis that is catching up with him. He is the “Akintola! of our time. What Akintola did to Awolowo is what Bola Ige is doing to Adesanya and the Yoruba people. That is nemesis, and that has started from the source of the Yoruba, Ife, and that is the beginning of his disgrace. Bola Ige is on the downward trend now. And you know Ife people will not tolerate any form of intimidation, gratification, embarrassment and cheating and if not for my intervention and the SSS, I saved him from being killed.

You said you feel sorry for the people of Osun State?
Yes, because this is a governor who imported dredging equipment worth about N200m and it has not worked for one day.

Will you advice the people of Osun State to be patient?
Of course, I have been begging them. I go to rallies, I stop at Bus Stops, I stop on the way. I have been begging, them to exercise patience since it is just four years, and we are going to the third year now. Look at how Abacha went, he misruled for 5 years, when the time came did any anybody did anything to him, fortunately we are in a democratic set up which is four years when there will be change of government. The spirit of Osun will ensure the change of guard in the state.

Photo of the Day: Gov. Amosun Will Make A Good Bus Conductor

Amosun Jonathan Lagos Ibadan

Yesterday, president Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with a pledge that the N167 billion project would be completed in 48 months.
During his inauguration, the president rode in a motorised vehicle with the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun acting as a make-shift ‘bus conductor’.

Amosun was, however, not daunted by his task as he grinned widely while hanging on to the vehicle.
Jonathan inaugurated the project as thousands of road users were grounded for about three hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Abeokuta-Ore-Benin Expressway.

The President, who flew to the interchange in a Nigeria Air Force helicopter, was accompanied to the venue by the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

See another photo below with the Ogun state governor still hanging on. Great job he did we must say.

See Female Preacher Who Exposes Her Breast To Get More Followers

African American LaTascha Emanuel who claims to be a Christian evangelist and owner of LaTascha Emanuel Ministries  has been turning heads (and some stomachs) on the internet.

A video of this lady ‘preaching the gospel’ went viral on the internet after it was posted on March 3, 2013 – why you ask?

We are all surprised (or rather shocked) that she’s got the most part of her chest exposed.
In the video, Emanuel titles her sermon ‘The Gospel From The Stripper’s Pole’, preaches about the ‘Forked tongue’ and how the word of God will restore it.
Reports say she’s getting quite a following already, most of them being men.

Join Any Party Of Your Choice PDP Tells Gbenga Daniel

SSuspended former governor of Ogun state Otunba Gbenga Daniel have been told he is free to join any political party he so desire, the chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Bayo Dayo, made this clear during an interview with journalists on Friday at Sagamu-Ibadan-Lagos Expressway Interchange before the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the road.

According to him “he has been our leader for a long time, but he cannot put his leg in PDP and the other leg in another political party. If he wants to go to another party, of course, this is a free world, you cannot tell anybody not to do what he likes. If he wants to go to any other party he is free, but if he stays in PDP, he would remain one of our leaders in Ogun State,” Dayo said.

Rave of The Moment, Ice Prince Now Nigeria’s Hottest Rapper

Since his first single ‘Oleku’ was released, Ice Prince’s fame has been on the rise. He is becoming a force to reckon with in the rap genre of music and his colleagues in the music industry are beginning to see the humble young man as someone who indeed has more to offer.

To prove that he has come of age in the dynamic music industry, Ice Prince won the Best African Act category of the Black Entertainment BET Awards held last Sunday in the United States.
This feat is more resounding in the sense that he competed against African star acts and an established star like Tu Face Idibia arguably the most popular and award winning African and Nigerian hip hop star.

For an industry that hasn’t until most recently paid attention to the Hip-Hop genre (the Western-originated culture falls fifth place to more favourable genres like Pop, Highlife, Fuji and RnB), Hip-Hop artistes have done impressively well to stay afloat.
According to Tony Doe, former rapper and OAP, Hip Hop has never been seen as our culture, that’s why it’s been hard for Hip-Hop acts to make a mark.

For years, pioneers struggled to make a mark but were faced with constant rejection up until 2009 when the likes of M.I and Naeto C started to break bank.
It would be in tune to say Panshak ‘Ice Prince’ Zamani is currently Nigeria’s hottest rapper. The Minna-born and Jos Town-bred Chocolate City Records artiste is soaring high and achieving all that Nigerian Hip-Hop artistes have ever longed for: recognition, fame and most importantly, growing wealth.

In 2006, veteran rappers Modnine and Terry thaRapman were discussing on how to shoot a video for their classic duet ‘Spazmodic‘. Then, unknown upcoming rappers M.I, Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince were told they could appear in the video, Zamani goes down on his knees, thanking God, Modey and Terry for what he considered as a breakthrough.

Jesse Jagz’ appeal in the Northern part of Nigeria may have gradually faded as the Pop singer has switched from Pop to dancehall/reggae music and is battling his other demons. Ice Prince has been made a perfect replacement, once again regaining the love from the North. How do you think he came about his Northern-themed single ‘Aboki’ and the follow up ‘VIP’? He has won the hearts of the rich, influential Northern Nigerian elites, including Ministers, Governors and members of the Royal family. If he isn’t having lunch with a senator in Kaduna today, he’s having dinner with the Gombe State Governor tomorrow.

Ice Prince’s asking price for a show now topples into the millions something only an M.I and Naeto C can brag about. Ice Prince however has more following from the teens, a large percentage that makes up the music fan base in Nigeria.

Fame has transcended into fortune of course; the rapper who drives a Range Rover SUV is said to have relocated from his apartment in Palm Groove estate to a more spacious crib in Ogudu area of Lagos. He has also completed a mansion back at home for his siblings (Ice lost his father a Police Officer in 1999 and his mum in May 2011).

Making deals with Smirnoff Ice and LG Electronics, the endorsement has started knocking.
The rapper’s buzz is getting bigger by the day, some big that he’s making appearances in Nollywood movies. In March 2013, he featured alongside Majid Michael in Yvonne Nelson’s ‘House of Gold’ movie.

A proud father of a son, Ice has begun to build his own crew. In 2011, he relocated his long time J Town music friends GRIP Boiz (three artistes – J Milla, Yung L, Endia and a producer Chopstix) to Lagos. He works with two managers, a business associate, Tobi Sanni-Daniel and road manager, Bishmang Nanle.

In a space of barely four years, the growth and appeal have been astronomical. And even though we’d love to give another buzzing rapper Olamide a lot of props, nothing, for now, can be compared with the Fire of Zamani.

6 Reasons Why Men Dont Want To Be Married

home

He loves the charming qualities you possess that remind him of his mom—like your superhero parenting skills and incredible work ethic—but he doesn’t want (or need) two mothers.

Surprise! Staying committed to one woman for the rest of their lives isn’t husbands’ biggest concern. They did freely choose to get married, after all. But that doesn’t mean your man is fear-free about marriage. Issues like putting him second in your life and bashing him with your friends may scare him. “Husbands’ fears are rooted primarily in rejection and self-consciousness,” says licensed marriage therapist Carin Goldstein, creator of BetheSmartWife.com. Read on for eight common fears husbands have about marriage, plus expert advice on how to ease them.

1. He’ll be on the back burner.

With kids, jobs and more vying for your attention, it’s easy for a husband to feel like he’s second best. “As marriages progress, men often feel that all they’re good for is a paycheck,” says Julie Orlov, psychotherapist, speaker and author of The Pathway to Love. To remind your husband that he’s still important to you, Orlov suggests carving out 30 minutes of one-on-one time each day with no talk of kids, in-laws or money.

2. You’ll turn into your (or his!) mother.

He loves the charming qualities you possess that remind him of his mom—like your superhero parenting skills and incredible work ethic—but he doesn’t want (or need) two mothers. Likewise, there are probably a few things about your mother that get on his nerves. And many husbands worry their wives will inherit those characteristics, says Karen Sherman, PhD, author of Marriage Magic! Find It, Keep It and Make It Last. She suggests acknowledging the situation with something like, “I know my mother annoys you sometimes. Let me know if you notice me doing those same things.” It’s a simple way to allay this fear.

3. The sex will stop.

“How do you get a woman to stop having sex? Marry her,” jokes Dr. Sherman. Although marriage offers security, trust and a deep connection, the downside is it can make you lazy. Keith from Oklahoma City, OK, assumed sex would end because “I couldn’t imagine my parents or grandparents doing it,” he says. But he learned after a decade of marriage there’s no reason not to make love. “If you’re truly committed to making each other happy, sex is how you reward your spouse for putting in effort,” he says. But what if you’re exhausted? Dr. Sherman suggests getting your husband’s help with chores by asking him to pitch in when you need him and offering positive reinforcement (hugs, kisses and gratitude) when he helps. Or try being direct with him: “If you give me a hand, we’ll have more time for sex,” suggests Dr. Sherman.

4. You won’t have things in common anymore.

Chances are, you shared an interest that brought you together, and he doesn’t want you to give up that part of yourself. Orlov references an old saying: “Women marry men in hopes they’ll change, while men marry women in hopes they won’t change.” Knowing this, ask yourself what may be different about yourself since you got married. If you once loved running, why don’t you do it anymore? Because other obligations in your life are keeping you from it? Because it’s hard to keep up with your partner? Then, remember how much you enjoy your shared interests and push past resistance to do it again every once in a while, advises Orlov. The benefit of reconnecting with your husband outweighs the time and effort it’ll take to make it happen.

5. You’ll try to change him.

Just as he fears losing the bond that first brought you together, he doesn’t want you to change who he is now. “What you see is what you get” is a line that Dr. Sheman often uses with her clients. She explains that when you first date each other, you put your best foot forward, and when you relax, every trait comes out more. “A lot of women feel that they can change a man, and men rightfully resent that.” But there are issues, like smoking, drinking and relying too much on his mother (which is all too common!), that warrant addressing. When suggesting changes, “come at him gently and lovingly,” recommends Dr. Sherman. “If you go after him with what you don’t like, it’s sure to backfire.” And don’t hesitate to seek professional help for those larger problems.

6. Alone time will be non-existent.

Whether it’s to read the paper or watch the game with the guys, he’s afraid he’ll never have a second by himself as your marriage continues on. “It behooves both spouses to enjoy time on their own,” says Goldstein. “If he has a chance to reboot, he’ll be a better husband, so it’s a win-win for both partners.” Sure, you may resent him when he’s playing golf instead of helping you with the kids, but it only benefits your marriage when he comes home rested and relaxed. Goldstein says, “You’re only as good to the people around you as you are to yourself.” So be sure to do what you love on your own or with your friends, too.

Man sentenced to 6 months jail term for stealing N6,000 Nokia phone

A 28-year-old man has received a six months jail sentence for stealing a Nokia phone worth N6,000.
Lucky Matthew received the verdict at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, after he plead guilty to three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
Presiding magistrate, Olufunke Hamzat, sentenced Matthew saying:
“You are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for pleading guilty to the charges against you.”

However, Matthew’s accomplice in the crime, Chigozie Udeh, 26, pleaded not guilty. Matthew and Udeh were neighbours in Agege.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Roman Unuigbe, the defendants broke into one Obinna Williams home at Okeho Street, Dopemu, Agege. They committed the crime at about 3.00am on June 23. Unuigbe said they made away with the Nokia phone.

Unuigbe said the offences committed contravened Sections 285, 404, and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the magistrate granted Udeh bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned Udeh’s case till July 15.

Brazil Demolished 10 Man World Champions Spain To Clinch Confed Cup

Fred scored a brace, while Neymar helped himelf to yet another fine goal, as hosts Brazil defeated world champions Spain 3-0, in the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The Fluminense striker opened scoring early in the first half, with a scrappy goal, as the Selecao imposed themselves on Spain from the start. Julio Cesar tipped Iniesta’s long-range effort over the bar and David Luiz cleared Pedro’s shot off the line, after a fine move from Spain, before golden boy Neymar doubled Brazil’s lead in the 44th minute.

The forward who is heading to Spain next season, exchanged passes with Oscar and rifled a finish into the roof of the net. Hulk and Neymar set up Fred to make it 3-0 two minutes after the restart, effectively ending the game as a contest.

Sergio Ramos wasted the chance to drag his side back into the match, after Marcelo fouled Jesus Navas in the boss. The Real Madrid defender sent his penalty wide of Cesar’s left-hand post. Things got worse for La Roja, as Gerard Pique was given his marching orders for hauling down new team-mate Neymar, as Fred also missed an opportunity to grab a hat-trick.

The emphatic win ends Spain’s winning streak in competitive matches since their 1-0 loss to Switzerland in June 2010 and saw Brazil clinch their third consecutive Confederations Cup.

Fuel scarcity looms as NUPENG begins warning strike Monday

The body has threatened an indefinite strike if its demands are not met by Wednesday. Nigeria’s petroleum and gas workers have issued a notice of a three-day warning strike starting Monday, over longstanding labour dispute, raising the spectre of nationwide fuel crisis as workers have been ordered to stop products at the depots.

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, said it will end the warning strike on Wednesday after when it will embark on an “indefinite” industrial action of its demands are not met. This is contained in a statement signed by NUPENG’s General-Secretary, Isaac Aberare, on Sunday in Lagos.

The statement said that the workers were going on strike over alleged unfair labour practices by some major oil companies in the country. “The strike is also to protest the refusal of NARTO to implement the signed collective bargaining agreement with the petroleum tanker drivers. “We are also unhappy over the bad state of roads across the nation, ” the statement said.

The statement said that all efforts by the Federal Ministry of Labour to intervene in the issue three weeks ago had failed. It said that the oil multinationals had failed to implement the agreement reached for a truce brokered by the Minister of Labour, Emeka Wogu.

The statement alleged that the union’s call for a stakeholders meeting in the oil and gas sector to address the situation had also been ignored. It directed all members of NUPENG at the various depots to stop loading petroleum products for the next three days. “Members in all the branches in the country must also follow suit,’’ the statement said. It said that if agfter the three-day strike, nothing was done to address the situation, NUPENG would be forced to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike.
