APC Merger In Jeopardy, As CPC Declares Regristration Certificate Missing

The APC merger is facing a new dimension of trouble as the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has written to the Nigeria Police Force complaining over the theft of its original party registration certificate issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The letter of complaint was said to have been written by the National Secretary of the party, Engr. Buba Galidima to the Utako police station in the Federal Capital (FCT).

Confirming the move by the party's leadership Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin told our reporter in a telephone interview that the party took the step to report the enstranged pioneer national chairman, Senator Rufai Hanga to the police for illegally withholding the certificate.

“Yes, the party has reported to the police over its missing certificate of registration which the former chairman, Senator Hanga has been keeping illegally since he was eased out of office,” he said.
One of the critical elements in the on-going political party merger processes, which the oppositon coalition is embarking on, is the requirement that each of the parties should be ready to submit back to INEC its original certificate of registration.

However, our reporter gathered that as part of measures to ensure that the opposition merger does not suffer any set-back, the CPC leaders decided to seek the assistance of the police to help retrieve the party's certificate said to be “missing” from their archives.
It was learnt that Galadima had requested the police to give the party a covering note, which would enable it apply for a certified true copy from INEC.

But contrary to Galadima’s position, the aggrieved faction of the party led by Hanga said the original registration certificate had always been in their possession since the inception of the party

The spokesman of the Hanga-led faction, Chief Dennis Ahganya told our reporter that the group was in rightful custody of the certificate since they have a pending court action challenging the authenticity of the Prince Tony Momoh-led national executive of the CPC.

“This is criminality as a result of desperation, even when it was deposed to in all our affidavits that the original certificate is with us and the copy is attached. INEC is not stupid to fall for such gimmicks,” he said.

Aghanya recalled that Fashakin had in one of his recent press statements claimed that the original certificate was with the national leader of the party, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and wondered how the certificate suddenly went missing from their archives.

“We are still waiting to see how many more lies they will tell to cover up all their lies. We are not against the merger, although we were not carried along by those championing the cause.

“But we are determined to claim our party and ensure that it is well repositioned for all subsequent elections, including the Anambra State governorship election in September 2013,” he said.

Aghanya said his group also intends to visit the National Assembly leadership to plead with them and remind them of the damage they are doing to the image of the country’s democracy by not readmitting the CPC parliamentary members from Katsina State who were returned by the court.

Is Genevieve Nnaji Begging D'banj To Take Her Back?

Genevieve and D'banj

Recently, the Kokomaster, D'banj, made a public confession that he's still single and looking for a good woman to make his wife. Since then, "Busy body" reliably gathered that actress Genevieve Nnaji has been making frantic efforts to get back into the arms of the super star.A source, who is an insider in D'banj's camp, said Genevieve and D'banj never really had a quarrel but that she was complaining too much because of the many ladies around him. D'banj, he said, got tired of her drama and simply ignored her. Now she wants to come back by all means..

Genny just clocked 34 and its obvious she can't just settle with any guy from the street corner; her man has to be someone with some level of class. I hear she made contacts with D'banj at least three times in the last days of April but D'banj is still having some reservations.

One of his concerns, the source told Olufamous, is that Genny is too nosy and always wants to know everything going on. D'banj is the cool type who doesn't like talking too much so he's kind of having a hard time accepting her back, even though he sure needs a woman now.

There is also the issue of age difference; D'banj will be 33 in June but Genevieve is already 34. She is said to playing the card of 'age is just a number' but D'banj is still taking his time, as the handsome groom.

APC Governors Grows To 23 - Gov Okorocha

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has said that about 23 governors are in All Progressives Congress (APC) even as eight Governors attended the Imo Freedom Rally.

Okorocha, who disclosed this during the rally at the Heroes Square,Owerri, yesterday, said that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is not joining any political party nor is it in alliance but in a merger to form a new party called the APC.

He said that it was a matter of time for the APC to take over every level of governance in the country, and said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has failed the people for the 12 years of democracy. He said the entire Ndigbo are for the APC.

He said the people stood behind him in 2011 when the powerful forces in the state polity opposed it,  and stressed that the mandate represent freedom from the oppression of the past.
He said the Freedom Day became possible because, “When the great and mighty said no you stood behind me; by this singular gesture power has returned to the people,” he added.

The governors, who took turn to speak berated the PDP style of leadership stressing that APC was poised
to give Nigeria better leadership.

In his comment, Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola described APC as “great train of change.” According to him, “We have set about a course irrevocable committed to giving power back to the people.”
Also speaking, Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, said the PDP has transformed from People Deceiving People to People Destroying People, therefore the only option left to salvage the nation was APC.

In his speech, Borno State Governor Ibrahim Shetima, said that the exceptional performance of the merger Governors were testimonies to how great the country would be if APC emerged the ruling party and urged the people to support the party for their good.

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, said that they were pleased to see that the performance of the Imo State Governor was real and concrete and not a newspaper achievement.
Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State said the performance of Governor Okorocha,“Was just the beginning of what the people will witness in terms of development, and noted that it was worth celebrating..

Governor Fayemi Kayode of Ekiti State, observed that  God gave them the victory originally throughthe people, adding that “a time like this calls for visionary leaders as seen in all the states where the APC are holding sway.” No amount of intimidation will deter us from working together to salvage the country, he added.

Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola described APC as a bulldozer that would crush everything on its way including the PDP. Comrade Adams Oshiomole of Edo State said when he led a protest of workers to the state as a labour leader he met a state with filthy streets dilapidated infrastructure but now everything in Imo State has changed. He said that was an example of how Nigeria will look like in every area of national life when APC becomes the ruling party.

Mewanwhile, the APC governors have criticised the situation in Rivers State, saying that it is inappropriate for certain forces to intimidate the Governor Rotimi Amaechi - led administration.

P-Square’s Paul Okoye Abandons His Second Baby Mama In London Hospital

Just few weeks ago that a woman, Anita gave birth to a baby boy at Atlanta, Georgia, USA, for Paul Okoye, one half of the twin hip hop sensational singers, Psquare, it has been revealed that another lady recently gave birth to a bouncing baby boy in a London hospital for the musician.

It was however gathered that both mother and child have been abandon by the singer in the hospital.
According to information gathered from a reliable source, the 19-year old mother of the child, Elshama Benson Igbanoi, gave birth to the boy at the Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital on Du Cane Road, London W12 0HS, but it was revealed that Paul has refused to claim paternal responsibility for the baby boy.

DailyPost gathered that Paul is making plans of travelling down to London to conduct a DNA test to ascertain paternity of the baby boy.

However, Elshama’s father, Mr. Benson Igbanoi stated that his daughter was faithful to the musician.

The baby mama, Elshama also insisted that she has never slept with any other man except Paul, emphasising that she lost her virginity to Paul Okoye when she was 17 years old.

It was also learnt that the London hospital where she gave birth has not received any payments.

“The hospital has been harassing both Elshama and her mother to pay the hospital bills of over £5,000 that have been incurred,” said one source.

Nigeria Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic, Two Killed

A Nigerian Air Force warplane crashed in Niger on Monday, and two of its pilots were killed. The aircraft was conducting a military operations in neighbouring Mali, and the two pilots were killed, Nigeria's army said in a statement.

The fighter jet was part of Nigeria's air fleet engaged with an African force battling hardline Islamists in Mali. An army source in Niamey said it had suffered a "mechanical" problem.

"A Nigerian Air Force Alpha jet aircraft on a non-combattant mission crashed today at Dargol village...The two pilots on board the fighter jet died," the Nigerian defence headquarters said in a statement.
The jet is one of four Nigerian aircraft based in Niamey as part of of the Africa-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA), it said, adding that the crash was being investigated.

French and Chadian planes and US drones have used the Niamey airport as a base for their operations in Mali.

The 6,000-strong AFISMA has taken over the lead from France in supporting Mali's army in the battle against Al-Qaeda-linked extremists.

A French-led operation launched in January drove the Islamists from key cities they had seized in northern Mali. But the Islamists have turned to suicide bombings and guerrilla attacks in reclaimed territory.

AFISMA will eventually be incorporated into a 12,600-strong peacekeeping force, following a UN resolution in April

Exclusive: Yabatech Rector in Multi-Million Naira Fraud

The Rector collects millions for frivolous trips she never makes, records show.

After amassing several thousands of naira on hotel bills for guests, Kudirat Oladipo, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech, faced a prickly school accountant who required proof the visitors were not Mrs. Oladipo’s private callers, before making payment.

“Please provide documents and /or explanations to establish the nexus between the individuals who incurred the bills and official functions or business of the college,” the official wrote in an internal memo to his boss.
Mrs. Ladipo overruled the demand, and almost effortlessly secured clearance. But her staff say it was a handy opportunity for the Rector, long suspected of cornering school funds to treat her private guests to lavish reception, to dispel the concerns.

In one year, according to documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES and interviews with officials, Mrs. Oladipo spent N15 million in accumulated costs including hotel bills on such controversial guests.
The spending fall amongst a raft of documented financial abuses against the Rector, which have triggered multiple investigations, one by a government panel, and two others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences commission, ICPC.

The allegations
Officials at the nation’s premier tertiary institution, who would only speak on anonymity, speak figuratively of the school’s academic excellence and financial probity now residing in the gutters; as Mrs. Ladipo spearheads a regime of desperate financial malfeasance driven by a criminal make-hay-while-the-sun-shines mentality. Weeks of PREMIUM TIMES investigation gives weight to that claim.
A detailed petition sent to the ICPC and the EFCC contains a long list of alleged financial recklessness, utter disregard of extant Civil Service rules, cover-up, nepotism, contract splitting, as well as lobbying to truncate the conversion of the college into a full-fledged university.

Questionable Generator contract
Contrary to federal procurement regulations, in March 2010, Mrs. Oladipo unilaterally approved the purchase of a 650 KVA generator from Cummins Limited for N24 million and, separately awarded another N1.2 million contract for the installation of the generator.
In her dispatch to the College’s Governing Council, the Rector claimed the need for the contract was urgent, requesting she be granted an anticipatory approval. However, documents seen by this website show that the Rector only filed the request long after submitting a letter to Cummins Limited for the supply of the plant.
In hunt for the deal, Mrs. Oladipo also brushed aside the institution’s tender board, which is the approving authority for such procurements. Despite the governing council holding several meetings after March, the purchase of the generator was only formally reported 15 months after the purchase – in July 2011.

The reason for the hasty approach to the contract, with apparent violations of federal procurement regulations, only became clear when Zenith Bank donated an identical 650KVA generator to the college. It turned out the bank purchased the same plant make for N17 million- N7 million less than what the school paid at the instance of the boss.

For Mrs. Oladipo, the power generators do not merely produce electricity; they also bring illicit wealth as shown in other violations. On May 18, 2010, again flouting all known stipulations, and over the head of the tenders board, she approved an outrageous N9.5 million to be paid to Cummins limited (her preferred supplier) for the repair of a 1.5 MVA generator. The generator broke down shortly after the repair and later, stopped working all together.

Two other instances show how college funds were allegedly cornered by the Rector: on May 14, 2010, without recourse to appropriate financial negotiation and going over the head of other principal officers of the college, she leased a generator for N1.8 million; and on July 13, 2012, hired some for N2.5 million.
An obviously aggrieved official, listed as DOW&S (believed to be the Director of Works and Services) on one of the memos reviewed by PREMIUM TIMES, rebuked the transaction.

“I have no document whatsoever to the effect that a generator was leased and the terms. By virtue of my responsibility, I ought to be privileged to the terms and conditions of the lease,” the official said.
One source said the rector often boasts of having the institution’s governing council in her pocket. Once, when challenged about her unrestrained financial recklessness, she retorted saying she did “PR” for members of the governing council. A new governing council has however been appointed for the institution, like other federal polytechnics, by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mrs. Oladipo said she is a victim of witch-hunt and dismissed the petitions against her as the handiwork of those opposed to her securing a second term in office.
However, she did not respond to specific allegations when approached by PREMIUM TIMES.
The college’s spokesperson, Kunle Adams, after requesting for a week to come up with a “satisfactory response” to the allegations, asked for more time at the expiration of the initial schedule, claiming the Rector was away on official duties. Over two weeks later, he is yet to respond.

But if arguments about tenure could wade off concerns about the Rector’s financial conduct, they appear wanting in the face of far more serious misdeeds.

“College guests”
Mrs. Oladipo loves the good life, and, her associates who fear being named, say she often spends worthy drinking moments relishing her brandy and beer in the company of male companions in luxury hotels in Lagos. After just a year in office, she allegedly incurred and forced the college to pay personal hotel bills in excess of N15 million.

Some of the receipts seen my PREMIUM TIMES show that she kept and hosted personal friends and relatives that she loosely described as “college guests” in posh hotels such as the Lagos Airport hotel and Protea Hotel, Ikeja.

Some of her regular guests are Senator Shola Ben, one Kenneth Gbagi and Professor Adams Adass. But a close look at some of the hotel bills indicates that these may be spurious names due to the obvious irregularities of the signatures of these individuals.

Unexpended travel allowances
Also, the Rector has used local and foreign trips to corner public funds, according to the documents and the school’s staff. Many of such trips are for purported international conferences and seminars she never attends and hardly refunds the money. If she pays, they come after prolonged periods.
On 4 October, 2011, she was given N1.18 million on her request to present a paper at a conference in Bonn, Germany. Mrs. Oladipo never attended the said conference and the money disbursed was never returned, according to documents available to this website.

Again, in July 2012, she requested to attend another conference in United Kingdom, and was paid N2.5 million for the trip. She never attended the conference, nor was the fund refunded.
She collected another N1.1 million for an international conference in Berlin. In keeping with her style, she did not attend the conference and the money was never returned to the coffers of the institution.
In May 2011, she was given N3.9 million to cover the cost of her vacation in New York, USA with her husband. To retire the amount, she presented a bill from Emmanuella Travelling Agency. But instead of the name of her husband, Adebayo Ladipo, as her vacationer, the bill bore a fictitious name, Ladi Ladipo, as that of her husband. She did not travel for the vacation and the money was never returned.

She did not return the N1.8 million she collected for a leadership and management training in Galilee, Israel, which she didn’t attend until 18 months later.
She apparently did not limit this sharp practice to international trips; she also made a killing from local trips.
In June 2010 she drew N450, 000.00 for an official assignment in Abuja and Kaduna. She did not travel as she claimed and the money was never returned to the institution. She even duplicated a claim for travel expenditure to Abuja in another instance.

After collecting money for air tickets, airport taxis, duty tour allowances and running cost allowances for meetings at Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, she also approved money for a driver, car and fuel for the same trip. The total cost incurred by her for this trip was N484, 000.

An incredulous official wondered if she travelled by air and road at the same time.
A source, who didn’t want to be named, said the Minister of Education, Rukaya Rufia, who is a personal friend of the rector, was making efforts to shield her from the government probe panel.
“The minister is trying to play down on the petition,” the source said. “Due to the interference of the minister a fresh panel has been constituted after the first one was sabotaged.”

Media aide to the minister, Aliyu Othman, did not return several calls made to his mobile phone.

Cover-up of cronies
Mrs. Oladipo is also accused of shielding cronies within the college accused of abuse of office or corruption. Notable is the mismanagement of the college run YCT Consult Limited. She has blatantly refused to investigate the charges of corruption levelled against the manager of YTC Consult, Moruf Adebakin. Indeed, to the chagrin of other staff of the institution, she recommended and made Mr. Adebakin Deputy Rector (Admin).

In another instance, a lecturer, Mr. Agbadaola who was found guilty of stealing the institution’s surveying equipment and recommended for dismissal, was pardoned and mere told to return the stolen equipment.
Also Mr O. V. Atere who was found guilty of defrauding an HND II student was never punished as recommended by the college’s Senior Staff Investigation Committee (SSIC) but instead received a scholarship and leave of absence to study in the United Kingdom.

She is also accused of doing everything to frustrate the elevation of the college into a full-fledged university. Officials of the school said she is bound to lose her position if that happens as she does not meet the minimum requirement to emerge as the Vice-Chancellor of a university.
Folu Olamiti, spokesperson of the ICPC demanded more confirmation that the petition against the rector has been received by the commission. He, however, said the ICPC does not make public statements of cases it is investigating.
Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson for the EFCC, also asked for more time to confirm if his agency has received the petition against the rector.

SIX REASONS WHY AREGBESOLA MAY NOT BE RE-ELECTED GOVERNOR OF OSUN.

RAUF

No doubt, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola has done wonderfully well as the governor of Osun, this is acknowledged by foes & friends alike. But history has taught us the world over, in Nigeria and in the south west in particular that performance alone don’t win you re–elections. There are salient other factors that determine how the people vote to re- elect or throw out their leader. The case of the late chief Bola Ige’s attempt at getting re-elected as governor of the old oyo state readily comes to mind.

1.    CHANGE

One attribute of all humans is the desire and crave for change. By nature, people usually want to have a feel of something different whenever they can. This is clearly demonstrated at elections all over the world. If the change factor plays out, then Rauf should bid his second term aspiration good bye. Of course such decision could be perceived to be wrong, but the people can choose to be wrong, after all democracy is about the people’s wish.

1.   HISTORY

History they say has a way of repeating itself, way back from when Osun was part of the old Oyo state and till date, the people are known not to have voted for a governor twice. What people seems not to know is that the same history is playing out itself in Osun (which was part of the old Oyo) the people of Osun like their brothers in Oyo have equally not voted for a governor twice in its years of existence.  Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who would have been the first to be re-elected was removed by the court of law on the ground that he never won the election ab-initio. By August 9, 2014, if the people of Osun decide to keep a date with history, then a new governor will be sworn–in come November 2014.

2.     ISLAMIZATION ALLEGATION

The continuous and persistent accusation that Aregbesola plans to Islamize the state of Osun could be a cog in the wheel of his second term aspiration. Never in the history of the state or any other south west state has a governor been so rigorously accused. You will recall that the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) addressed a widely publicized press conference to drive home this accusation. To a keen observer, Aregbesola has no such motive and can possibly not even think about it. But for a religiously balanced state like Osun to have a Muslims as Governor, Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, Speaker of the state house of assembly, his deputy and other key officers of government, one can quickly agree that questions must be asked.

3.    LAGOS INFLUX

Another major factor that could work against Aregbes re-election is the influx of people from Lagos as the major actors and players in his government. The right to appoint who will help the governor run his administration is absolutely his no doubt. But to the ordinary people of Osun the governors’s action is the highest form of disdain. This opinion is shared even among his party men and could have a negative effect on their commitments to his bid.
Moreover, majority of “these Lagosian” have no electoral value, most of them don’t belong to the party here, and neither do they have any political constituency. This could deal a big blow to the re-emergence of Rauf as governor.

4.    EKITI ELECTION

Governorship election in Osun will take place some weeks after that of Ekiti. The outcome of the Ekiti election will definitely affect the voting pattern in the Osun election as well. The Yoruba people are known to always join bandwagon politics and tend to bend towards the same direction at various elections. Historically, they often embrace a unified political structure across the Yoruba states. The emergence of  Fayemi in Ekiti and Aregbe in Osun before the 2011 general elections had serious impact on the outcome of elections in the other state governed by PDP in 2011 (Oyo & Ogun) .
With ACN having already lost in Ondo, the Ekiti governorship is the litmus test for the political control of the south west. Should Fayemi be voted out, then Aregbe and Osun ACN should be prepared to face a daunting task.

5.   OVER CONFIDENCE

One major obstacle to getting re-elected research has shown is over confidence. Leaders who have performed tend to believe that their performance should speak for them, thus making them to not commit much effort to the re-election as they did while seeking for the people’s mandate at first. But the reality on ground shows that this often backfires.
Aregbesola and his allies at every given opportunity have always reiterated that “we have done enough to win again” The world is waiting and watching
