“I Can Give Out Any Of My Daughters In Marriage Even At The Age Of 6″ – Senator Alhaji Ahmed Sani Yerima

Former Governor of Zmafara State c*m Senator Alhaji Ahmed Sani Yerima has responded to critics over his recent advocacy for early child marriage.

senator_ahmed_sani_yerima
The Senator has recently been in the limelight of negative commonts by Nigerians because of his stand on the proposed deletion of Section 29 (devoted mainly to Citizenship), Subsection 4 (a) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) by the Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu-led Senate’s Constitution Review Committee.

To get a clearer picture, Section 29 Subsection (1) states: Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation of this section. While the controversial Subsection that led to outrage (4) states for the purposes of subsection (1) that (a) “full age” means the age of eighteen years and above; (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age. It was at this point Yerima invoked a point of order citing Item 61 of Part 1 of the Second Schedule of the Constitution which bars the National Assembly from legislating on matters of formation, annulment and dissolution of marriages under Islamic and Customary laws.

Now, under Islamic laws, any woman that is married is of age whether she is up to 18-years or not. Therefore, the Senator argued that putting the age limit at 18, contravenes Islamic law.
Due to the public outlash that followed the bill Senator Yerima then proceded to release this statement below.

‘Nigeria has many uncountable problems and none of them is early marriage. As a matter of fact early marriage the solution to about half of our problems. For those who wonder if I can give my daughter(s) out in marriage at the age of 9 or 13, I tell you most honestly, I can give her out at the age of 6 if I want to and its not your business.
This is because I am a Muslim and I follow the example of the best of mankind, Muhammad ﺻَﻠَّﻰ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪُ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪِ ﻭَﺳَﻠَّﻢَ .

In Islam, marriage is not only about s*x, it is about family and helping one another in achieving their goals, which is the attainment of Paradise.
In Islam, a girl can be given out in marriage as early as 6 years old, but consummation of the marriage can only be done when the girl becomes physically mature and she gives her consent to it because unlike English law, it is not permissible for a man To Molest his wife in Shari’ah Law.
So what can anybody tell me?

I live in a city where young girls at the age of 12 have already became serial fornicators and cannot count the number of man they’ve Were Intimate with.
I live in a City where primary school children disvirgin themselves behind toilets on Valentine day.
I live in a city where young girls flood the street at night looking for men that would give them N500 to Be Intimate with them.

I live in a city where parents send their daughters out overseas to prostitute and send dollars down.
I live in a City where Government officials pick undergraduates from University car parks with Coastal Buses to wild s*x parties.
I live in a city where abortion is so common that even a Chemist shop owner can perform abortion with just N2,500.

These are your daughters, and this should worry you and not Yerima’s private matters. So ask me again why I support early marriage and I will slap the Jinn out of your head”.

Omisore has nothing to offer - Aregbesola

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Monday said a former deputy governor of the state and Peoples Democratic Party stalwart, Chief Iyiola Omisore, had nothing to offer the people of the state.
Aregbesola's comment came on the heels of Omisore's criticism of his administration in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

Omisore, a former Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriation and PDP governorship aspirant in the 2014 poll in the state had challenged Aregbesola to an open debate, saying he possessed better credentials and capabilities than the governor.

However, the governor, who spoke through his Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr. Ajibola Basiru, on Monday, described Omisore as an "ordinary fellow, who has no authority to challenge him to a debate".
He said, "Omisore should go and engage other aspirants of his party in a debate first. It is after winning his party's ticket that he could think of engaging the governor in a debate.

"If he doesn't, at this stage, know the rules of public engagement in governance, that shows the level of representation Osun had during PDP's years of misrule.
"On what basis does he want to debate with the governor? What does he have to offer? What did he offer as deputy governor and senator? Osun cannot be drawn back by men of yesteryear anymore; Osun is on a progressive move."

Faulting Omisore for saying the Federal Government had reimbursed Osun for some federal road projects constructed by the state government, Aregbesola challenged the PDP chief to produce evidence of such payment.

He said, "If it is that easy to get reimbursement from the Federal Government, why did the PDP-led administration, under Olagunsoye Oyinlola's watch, leave Osun roads in disrepair for seven and a half years? Why didn't the PDP tar Osun roads and go to the Federal Government for reimbursement?"
The governor restated his commitment to the development of the state, noting that the new infrastructure would fast-track socio-economic growth in the state.

NYSC Reverse Policy On Posting To Classrooms Only

The National Governing Board of NYSC has reviewed the posting policy of the scheme to ensure that graduates are posted to areas of specialisation and also to ensure that corps employers especially in the private sector should be able to employ a minimum of 30 per cent of corps members posted to their organisations who passed their aptitude test and meet their entry requirements

He stated that such policy would encourage corps members to bring out their best during the service year to enable them be employed.

This was made known by Chief Gordon Bozimo, the chairman of the board during a courtesy visit to the Delta state governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in Asaba the state capital.

Chief Bozimo stated that the board was partnering with some banks to introduce the cashless policy to the corps members explaining it would reduce the chances of any corps member being robbed.
He commended Governor Uduaghan for his interest and support for the NYSC scheme and requested that more assistance be given to the scheme in the areas of electricity, pipe borne water, renovation of the orientation camp multi-purpose hall and the increase of the perimeter fence.

Governor Uduaghan said he is a very firm believer in the NYSC because, it provides opportunity for the exchange of cultural and religious ideas amongst our young minds and engender the unity of the country, adding that “the scheme acts as a pivot for the unity of the country and in keeping the country together.”

While observing that security and religious challenges in the recent past have affected the posting of youth corps members to some parts of the country, Dr Uduaghan commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the efforts in tackling the security challenges and called on the perpetuators and their sponsors to desist from breaching the peace in the so that corps members can be posted to different parts of the country and contribute their quota to nation building.

The governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety of corps members explaining that there has been no record of kidnapping of Youth Corpers in the state.

He assured that Delta State was very safe for members of the NYSC, disclosing that security operatives were on the alert in areas where there are Corpers’ Lodges asserting: “Delta State is a safe place for corps members and the Police Commissioner has taken special measures to ensure their safety. The corps members too should be security conscious and avoid criminal flashpoints.”
