THE Joint Action Congress (JAC) of Senior Staffs Association of
Nigeria University (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and
National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) of Osun State
University (UNIOSUN), on Tuesday, gave its management a final ultimatum
of 7-working days to comply with its demands or face industrial crisis
in all the six campuses of the institution.
The three unions of the institution which called for urgent
implementation of their allowances, welfare packages among other
entitlements had given their management led by the vice-chancellor,
Professor Bashiru Okesina a-21 working day ultimatum which expired
yesterday.
Addressing the workers at a congress held at the Main Lecture Theatre (MLT) of the university, Osogbo Campus, the NASU Chairman, Isaiah Fayemi disclosed that the management refused to call JAC for dialogue until the 15th day of the expired ultimatum stressing that the management were indifferent to the implementation of their demands.
Meanwhile, the registrar of the institution, Dr Olusakin Faniran and the bursar, Alhaji Bayo Lasisi who were at the congress as members of SSANU jointly appealed to the workers to give the management more time in order to meet with the state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola who is presently out of the country so as to resolve the issues.
The communiqué issued at the end of the congress and signed by the three chairmen of SSANU, Kadiri Adiat, NASU, Isaiah Fayemi and NAAT, Adeleke Ismaheel, reads in part: “further to the resolutions of JAC which expires on Tuesday 6th August, 2013 and failure of management of UNIOSUN to meet the demanads of JAC, the JAC of NASU, SSANU and NAAT hereby give a final ultimatum of 7 days effective from Monday, August 12, 2013 to the management to comply with its demands as entrenched in the resolutions of congress held on July, 9, 2013.”
The workers are demanding for the implementation of the hazard allowance, arrears, overtime allowance and stoppage of special allowances for some selected staff. They also the state government to return the university autonomy in order to allow the management work effectively.
“The management should review the anomalies in the recent vacancies advertisement published in the Punch Newspaper of Thursday, 27th June, 2013. The advertisement should be reversed to accommodate members of staff with higher qualifications, temporary and GAP (Graduate Assistant Programme) that have been serving the system for sometimes now”.
“The management should pay without further delay the 1% pioneer allowance arrears, pay staff salary promptly and also implement the welfare package for staff which includes car refurbish, furniture and housing loan as obtained in other universities and government parastatals”, the communiqué reads.
