The accident occurred as a young driver, attempting to re-park his car near the venue of the event, lost control and crashed the automobile on the safely-seated man against the back of another parked, gold-coloured, Toyota Camry car, abruptly ending a wedding that had attracted some of the who-is-who of the capital city’s social circles.
The victim, Edward Airhiavbere, said to have been a Septuagenarian, immediately gave up the ghost despite a spirited attempt that was made to take him to the hospital, where he was later labelled as brought-in-dead corpse.
The unidentified young man who drove the blue-coloured, old modelled, Isuzu V8 sports utility car with registration number Lagos SR 21 KJA, exploited the confusion that enveloped the registry, and escaped mob action.
The accident occurred at about 9.30am on Saturday in front of the Registry of the Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State, located just about 100 metres from the sprawling palace of the Benin Monarch.
It left the groom, bride and others in the bridal train weeping profusely and uncontrollably as the victim, Edward Airhiavbere, apparently died on the spot before he could be rushed to the nearby Central Hospital’s emergency ward for treatment.
