Osun 2014: Mimiko, Omisore plans Osun Takeover

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and a one time Deputy Governor, senator and governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state of Osun, Sen. Iyiola Omisore are believed to have held a secret meeting at the weekend in the state capital Osogbo, the state capital. Both Mimiko and Omisore who are said to be age-long friends reportedly met at the residence of a chieftain of the PDP in Osogbo before they both attended a dinner organized by the Lion’s Club, district 404 in Osogbo.
The two friends met privately with some other chieftains of the PDP in the state later appeared at the GMT Hotel, venue of the dinner, where an award was also conferred on Omisore by the club.

According to reliable sources, the meeting may not be unconnected with next year’s governorship election in the state, as Omisore has started mobilizing support for the realization of his long nursed dream of becoming the governor of the state. Omisore is believed to be the leading aspirant among the contestants in the PDP for the state governorship ticket. Other aspirants seeking the governorship position on the platform of the PDP are Sen. Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and Hon. Oluwole Oke.

Sources close to the PDP in the state informed that Mimiko is one of the strong supporters of Omisore and he’s working round the clock to ensure that Omisore succeeds the incumbent Governor, Rauf Aregbesola. The relationship between Aregbesola and Mimiko became frosty shortly after the latter was declared Governor of Ondo state by the Court of Appeal and failed to pitch tent with Aregbesola’s political party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Other dignitaries present at the event in honor of Omisore were the Senate President, Dr. David Mark who was represented by Sen. Mujitaba Mohammed, representative of the Kwara state governor, state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Adejare Bello, among other notable politicians across the country.
