Headmaster Rapes Primary School Girl Inside School

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arraigned a 55-year-old headmaster of a private nursery and primary school in Akaba community, Yenagoa Local Government, Bayelsa State, Mr. Akpolagha Agbugiye, for defiling an eight-year-old pupil.

The headmaster, who was dragged before the Chief Magistrate’s Court 1 in Yenagoa, was accused of inserting his finger into the private parts of the pupil…

The prosecuting lawyer, Roselyn Doctor, a police Inspector, told the court that the incident happened on May 3. She said the headmaster committed the offence at the back of the school building. 

 

She said the school boss asked the pupil to touch the ground with her finger and raise her leg after which he removed her pants and inserted his finger into her private part.
She said, “The posture he placed the girl was supposed to be a form of punishment called ‘pick a pin.’

“The accused asked the classmate of the victim to call her. When the two girls met him at the back of the school building, he asked the other girl to leave. The headmaster then asked the pupil to ‘pick pin’, an order which the girl obeyed. At this point he pulled the girl’s pant and inserted his fingers into her private part.”

The police prosecutor said the victim limped home and reported the incident to her mother.
She said her mother later took her to the Federal Medical Centre for examination, adding that a doctor confirmed that the girl had been defiled.

The police told the presiding Magistrate, Patricia Edouyemiekumo, that the action was a criminal offence punishable under section 146(2) of the Criminal Code, Law of Bayelsa State, 2006.

When the charges were read to him, the Headmaster pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties residing in the state capital.
The case has adjourned till June 13 for trial.

ABU Professor Sentenced To Jail For Enticing Married Student

 

A university don, Professor Festus David Kolo of the Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University,ABU, Zaria has been sentenced to two months imprisonment by the Chief Magistrate Court in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State for knowingly enticing a married woman who was his student contrary to Section 389 of the penal code law.

Principal State Prosecution Counsel, Mustapha Adamu, who read the first information report, said on May 21, one Muhammad Ghali of Takur Quarters
Dutse “reported you, Prof. Festus David Kolo of ABU, Zaria, knowing fully well that Mrs Bushra Ghali Muhammed is his wife, and you have been making advances towards her, enticing her, calling her often, sending her love text messages using your phone”.

The FIR also stated, “You, Prof. Kolo, was caught red handed by the police at Dan Musa Guest House, Room 109 with Ghali’s wife after he reported the case to the police and after several warnings and pleas by the husband”, However, the accused pleaded guilty.

Kolo’s legal representatives, M.A. Gausu and R.A. Nwande told the court that their client was above 60 years and the bread winner of his family, therefore pleaded with the court to temper justice
with mercy.

Senior Magistrate, Muhammed Musa Kaugama noted that the convict was a first time offender, but also ruled that, “this court hereby sentenced the convict
to two months imprisonment without option of fine” in order to serve as deterrent against similar act in the future.

Bride refuses to show up in church on wedding day

There was serious drama at St Emmanuel Cathedral Church, Okesa, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state on Saturday, June 8 as a bride who was supposed to be joined in holy matrimony to her husband refused to turn-up for her the ceremony. The groom, his friends and relatives waited in vain for the arrival of the bride until they found out that she was not coming.

It was gathered that the enraged husband-to-be and his friends stormed the bride’s family resident to unleash their anger when it done on them that the bride won’t show up.
However, sources said that it appeared something was wrong earlier when the Cathedral Administrator, who had gone out in the morning got back to his residence at the time the wedding was to take place, changed his clothes and went out again.

“Then we knew that something was wrong and people had been coming here since around noon and we have been telling them that the wedding has been postponed,” the source said.

According to the source, the problem, which could not be clarified had to do with the bride, adding that, “only that we suspect that it must be a family issue as we gathered that the lady’s parents are dead.”

Another source said the bride, an indigene of Ado Ekiti, had already been living with a man, whom she had been saying was a member of her family.
Unconfirmed sources also said the matter has been taken to the palace of the Ado Ekiti Monarch, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, for intervention.

Aregbesola Donates N10Million to Osun Christians Association of Nigeria

The State of Osun Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has presented a N10 million cheque to the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the completion of its secretariat at Owode in Osogbo, the state capital.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sikiru Adetona Ayedun, urged the body to promote unity, harmony and peaceful co-existence with other religious faiths in the state.He noted that some mischief makers were trying to disrupt peace in the state through their campaign of calumny against the Aregbesola administration.The commissioner enjoined the body led by its chairman, Superior Evangelist Abraham Aladeseye, to avoid anything that could cause religious disharmony and rancour with other religious bodies and their members.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oladipo Soyode, dispelled the rumour that Aregbesola was planning to Islamise the state. Aladeseye expressed gratitude for the gesture, promising judicious use of the money.

Nigeria Is A Sinking Ship – Ribadu

Former chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has described Nigeria’s democracy as one full of tyranny.

He said leadership failure had made the youth lose confidence in the government.
The ex-EFCC boss said the citizenry should know that they are in a sinking ship.
He added that Nigerians should all see themselves as politicians in the storm, who were bound to rescue the ship.
“The reality of modern Nigeria is one that challenges us to drop any other identity aside from that of citizen in our effort to rescue the ship of state from this stormy sea of chaos,” he said.
Ribadu said this in his address delivered at a public lecture organised by the Students’ Representative Council of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State on Saturday.
He said the tyrants in Nigeria’s democracy were certain individuals who served as agents of electoral malpractices and political dishonesty.

He added that unless Nigerians put their patriotism away from greed and any undemocratic advocacy, their collective struggle to install a popular government will remain a mission impossible.
Ribadu said, “But the place of the youth in our democratic space is jeopardised when the elite in our state decide to model our government after a gerontocracy—a government by the old and for the elderly. Ours is a system in which new and modern ideas are denied a chance to grow and mature.

“The tragedy of our democracy is that it is one in which the yearnings of the youth are stamped down in order to perpetuate a tyranny of interests. Tyranny it is when a certain slim range of people impose their private interests on the majority; tyranny it is when the agents of change are left on the cliffs of unemployment, poverty, insecurity, substandard education and, worse still, policies destroyed by our heritage of corruptions.

“We are doomed as a nation the moment the youth get hoodwinked by the bickering of bitter politicians who ride to relevance on sentiments that only inspire distrust among citizens. My experience so far in politics has taught me that age does not guarantee maturity to responsibly play the role of a patriot in an atmosphere of tensed political antagonisms.”

He noted that the political storm included inter-ethnic, inter-religious and inter-regional clashes.
Ribadu said, “The challenge ahead is enormous. The challenge is for us to form networks that will engage and destroy the evil missions of the exclusionists and agents of anarchy among us. In a time of anarchy, everybody is a politician. This is a time of anarchy.

“In a time like this, we should have no identities other than ordinary Citizen. We are citizens of a world challenged, a people confused and abused, a nation whose resources is misused by leaders whose major worry is the amount of dollars in their bank accounts. The situation is one of psychological abuse, existential abuse. My antidote for this monstrous reality is also psychological.”
